Tom Duggan began his lacrosse coaching career in 1989 as the head lacrosse coach for the US Air Force Academy where he played as a midfielder and face off specialist for four years.  Following his six years at the Academy, a change in his military tour sent him to Rhode Island where he took over the coaching responsibilities at the University of Rhode Island and added youth lacrosse to his resume in the newly formed youth program in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.  With lacrosse growing at a rapid pace in the area, Coach Duggan continued coaching youth programs, middle school elite teams, and started the South Kingstown High School Boys Varsity Program.  While at South Kingston, he amassed a 71% win percentage, took the team to the playoffs 5 of his 6 years there, took the team to the State Championship his last 3 years, and was awarded the US Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2011.  He moved to Maryland in 2013 where he continued his coaching career by joining the Cannons coaching staff.  He has coached our Cannons High School and Cannons 2023 teams and is currently coaching the Cannons 2025 Gold team.

Outside of lacrosse, Coach Tom is a Colonel in the US Air Force, serving as the Deputy Director of the Joint Surgeon General.  He and his wife Amy have a daughter Elizabeth who graduated from Endicott College and currently works in Rhode Island; a son Tanner who graduated from University of Northern Colorado, married, and currently coaches lacrosse at Colorado State University; a daughter Alana who graduated from the University of Rhode Island and continues to work in Rhode Island; a son Jack who is a graduate of Huntingtown HS and in his final year at Arizona State University; a daughter Olivia who graduated from Huntingtown HS and attends Winthrop University in South Carolina; and son Joe who is a freshman, playing lacrosse at Calvert Hall College High School and on the Cannons 2022-2023 HS team.  Clearly, Coach Tom has very little free time outside of family and lacrosse, but when he does he enjoys carpentry.  Tom built the bounceback walls currently at Grays Field and if you've ever tried to move them you will realize that Tom's carpentry creations are built to last - just like his relationships with his players!

Coach Mark first picked up a lacrosse stick at the age of 11 when he started his lacrosse journey with the Calvert Lacrosse Club.  By his sophomore year, Mark was the starting attackman on Calvert Lacrosse Club’s HS Varsity Team and he kept that spot through his senior year.  Mark helped his team secure two Washington Post Top 10 rankings, climbing all the way to #4 in the DC Metro Area.  After high school, Mark played lacrosse at Anne Arundel Community College before moving on to the club/semi-pro lacrosse circuit where he continued for many years.

Mark has not put down his lacrosse stick since that first day at age 11.  Today he directs and plays on the Cannons Classic Mens Lacrosse team and plays in competitive travel tournaments  Even now, Mark plays attack and remains a scoring threat with his smooth moves around the crease and his quick release.

After a very slight twist of the arm from Lenny and Erna, Mark returned to his second family to coach with Calvert Lacrosse Club’s youth program and ultimately with the Cannons Select Lacrosse program.  Mark loves each of the young men he has coached through the years and watching those young men take the field at the high school and college levels gives Mark a great sense of pride!

During those rare occasions when Mark is off the lacrosse field, he is an in-house electrician with the Engineering Department at Capital One Arena in Washington DC.  Mark’s wife Liz played lacrosse during high school and they have a son Camden who was born with a lacrosse stick in his hand and who plays with the Cannons U7 Scoopers Team.  Coach Mark will be leading our 2025 Blue Team this fall.  He also coaches our U7 Scoopers and is a Player/Manager of our Cannons Classic Mens Lacrosse Team.  He will be with us for a long, long time!

Coach Chris is an offensive specialty coach for our Cannons program.  An alum of our Cannons program, Chris played at Northern HS and Calverton before being recruited to play lacrosse at Mt St Marys College where Chris had an amazing career.  Chris set himself apart from the pack by becoming the 13th player in Mount history to reach the 100-goal plateau and by being the game hero as he scored the game-winning goal in OT in the 2019 playoff game vs 14th ranked Richmond.  As a freshman at The Mount, Chris was named to the Northeast Conference All-Rookie team, finished second on the team in goals and points despite missing the final four games due to injury, and was named NEC Rookie of the Week on March 7 after back-to-back hat tricks against Georgetown and Furman.  As a sophomore, Chris started in all 14 games, recorded 29 goals and nine assists on the year, led the team in goals and ranked fourth on the team in assists.  He had a season-high seven points against Bellarmine, hat trick performances in games against Georgetown, VMI, and Robert Morris, and season-high four goal performances against Bellarmine and Hobart.  Chris had a spectacular lacrosse career at The Mount and wants to give back to place he started - the Cannons program.  We are very fortunate to have such a talented and upstanding young man working with our Cannons players.

This is Shawn’s seventh year as a youth lacrosse coach.  During his coaching career, Shawn has touched many young lives and has had many successes.  Shawn is married to his wife Eileen and has two children – son Caleb who plays on the Cannons Select U11 team and daughter Alana who plays girls lacrosse.  When not coaching or supporting his children on the lacrosse field, Shawn is on the water as owner and captain of his charter fishing boats – Wound Tight and Miss Lizzy Fishing Charters.  Shawn continues to play men’s lacrosse where he still outruns most opponents and dominates on faceoffs.

2026 Cannons Head Coach

Accomplished longtime player.  Award-winning high school varsity coach.  Major contributor to the growth of high school and youth lacrosse in Southern MD and DC Metro Area.  US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Hall of Fame Inductee.  US Lacrosse Coach of the Year.  US Lacrosse and US Coaches Asso Man of the Year.  US Lacrosse Century Club recipient for 100+ high school wins.  Founder of Calvert Lacrosse Club.  Founder and 20-year President of SMYLA Youth League. Former high school official. And the list continues…

Coach Lenny brings a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences and a crusty coaching style to the Cannons Select Lacrosse Program.  Although folklore would say Coach Lenny was born with a lacrosse stick in his hand, he was actually five when he discovered his first lacrosse stick.  Lenny played youth and high school lacrosse in Long Island before being recruited to play college lacrosse at the University of MD where he was a three-year letterman.  After graduating from UMD, he enrolled in law school and made MD his permanent home.  Lenny played lacrosse for more than a decade in the US Club Lacrosse Leagues which he respectfully calls “the pro league back in the day.”

Coach Lenny started lacrosse in Southern MD in 1986 with nine high school students.  When the school system would not support the sport, Coach Lenny and the boys raised funds to support the program and continued as an independent high school varsity program until 2000 when the Board of Education adopted lacrosse as a high school sport.  Under his coaching, his Calvert Lacrosse Club teams celebrated two undefeated seasons, won four Tri-County Championships, ranked six times in The Washington Post Top 20, and had numerous players awarded HS All-American, All-Met, All-Conference, and All-League recognition and players he has coached continue to be recruited into some of the top college lacrosse programs.  Coach Lenny’s CLC Program developed girls and youth divisions and continued until merging with Cannons Select Lacrosse where Coach Lenny continues coaching youth lacrosse.  Lenny still plays the sport he loves in local men’s leagues and travels to compete in tournaments with his Mr Boh team, including playing twice in the Lacrosse World Games. His most treasured lacrosse moments are when he can suit up and play alongside his son, Joe!

Off the lacrosse field, Lenny resides in Huntingtown with his lacrosse fanatic wife and maintains a private law practice in Upper Marlboro.  Although Lenny’s accomplishments are many, he is most proud of his amazing family and the lifelong friendships he has developed with the players he has coached.
